The Gato Audio FM-2 is a high-end stand-mount loudspeaker designed and manufactured in Copenhagen, Denmark. Custom-engineered low-compression, low-hysteresis drive units developed using Scan-Speak Revelator technology, including a sliced-paper mid-woofer and Ring Radiator tweeter. Gato Audio PurePHASE crossover technology, designed for accurate acoustic phase response, low group delay and wide linear dispersion. FusedMASS multilayer laminated cabinet construction, providing exceptional rigidity and high internal damping to minimise cabinet resonance and coloration. Recommended amplifier power: 50-300 W. In my experience, the FM-2 delivers a rare combination of velvety, emotional musicality alongside remarkable accuracy and incredible detail.

Striking this precise balance-where high resolution meets pure soul-is virtually unheard of at this price point and even significantly above it. Despite its crystal-clear transparency, the FM-2 has the unusual ability to make even less-than-perfect recordings genuinely enjoyable to listen to, remaining highly revealing without becoming harsh or clinical.

Its overall character has a beautifully natural, midrange-focused presentation, which truly shines with vocals, acoustic instruments. I have achieved stunningly warm and musical results using a 25W Class-A amplifier, as well as exceptional drive, authority and scale with higher-powered Class-AB designs. My personal comparison with the ATC SCM40: After extensive direct comparison, I honestly couldn't find a clear advantage of the SCM40 over the Gato FM-2. If anything, I prefer the FM-2's richer and more substantial midrange, with greater body and harmonic weight on vocals and acoustic instruments, while retaining impressive speed and transient clarity. Every aspect of the FM-2 reflects an uncompromising approach to engineering and craftsmanship, from the raised metal Gato badge, CNC-machined aluminium rear panel and high-gloss real wood veneer finish, to the polished stainless-steel driver trims, premium WBT binding posts, the substantial weight of the cabinets and the exceptionally heavy dedicated stands. Collectively, these details give the FM-2 the fit, finish and physical presence typically associated with loudspeakers in the five-figure price category. The speakers are in excellent condition for their age. They have been extremely well cared for, and I have struggled to identify any cosmetic imperfections on the speakers worth specifically photographing. Auditions are very welcome for serious buyers in a relaxed and pressure-free environment.
